Shoulder, Arm, and Hand Pain Treatment From Your Batavia-based Chiropractor

Have you been trying to make your way through everyday life with one arm hanging uselessly at your side? Shoulder, arm, and hand pain may occur separately, but they may also be part of a larger problem such as impinged nerves or nerve roots. Here at Sharratt Chiropractic, we offer non-surgical, drug-free pain relief techniques to correct the imbalances behind your symptoms so you can experience drug-free pain relief.

Pain Afflicting the Upper Extremity Joints

The shoulders, arms, and hands are capable of a wide range of motions and functions, from the rotational abilities of the major joints to the dexterity of each finger. Unfortunately, the joints of the upper extremities are also prone to a variety of problems, from acute injury to accumulated wear and tear. Specific problems may include:

  • Shoulder - Rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), dislocation, tendinitis, sprains, and strains
  • Elbow - Dislocation, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), medial epicondylitis (golfer's elbow), sprains and strains
  • Hand - Carpal tunnel syndrome (impingement of the median nerve in the wrist), wrist bone subluxation, sprains and strains

But some forms of shoulder, arm, and hand pain do not originate at these locations at all. It's possible to think that you have an injury or chronic damage in one of these structures when in fact the pain is being referred from higher up the nerve pathways. One cause of such symptoms is cervical radiculopathy. This problem occurs when a nerve root in the cervical spine is compressed by a bone spur, disc, or vertebral subluxation. The impingement scrambles nerve signals being routed to various points in the shoulder, arm, and hand, causing pain, weakness, and other discomforts. Nerve impingement between the topmost rib and collarbone, a problem called thoracic outlet syndrome, can produce similar pain.
